"When I re-worked the schedule, he never asked me one way or the other," Ryan said. "I was not going to go back on my word. When I give a player my word that he can do some things or whatever, so be it." Burress said he went to a high school in the Virginia Beach area and handed out turkeys and hams, and visited homeless shelters. Despite returning to New Jersey on Monday night, Burress also missed practice Tuesday while he was at a New York City school talking to students. He has a rewards program through his charity, which recognizes the top 17 students at Central Park East Middle School. "Ill be bringing those kids to the game this weekend -- 17 of those kids -- and I donated 20 computers to the school," Burress said. "So its just my way of recognizing and trying to encourage those kids in that community." Burress, back in the NFL after serving 20 months in prison on a gun charge after accidentally shooting himself in 2008, had planned the events a few months ago. Typically, players are off Monday afternoons and Tuesdays, but the Jets played last Thursday night and have this Thursday off for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. "It just says a lot about (Ryan) and the organization enough in itself, being able to let me go out and fulfil my commitments and obligations because I wouldve felt horrible," Burress said. "It wouldnt have sent a good message about me and the different things that Im trying to do, being that I committed to help those kids and help these families throughout. So its just refreshing to be able to fulfil that commitment and see the smiles on their faces, and everybody is blessed and everybody is happy, and just come back to work."
