GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers sure look ready for the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, Ryan Grant scored twice and the Green Bay defence picked on Jake Locker early and often in a 55-7 rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. It was the most points scored by the Packers since they put up the same number against Tampa Bay on Oct. 2, 1983, and their largest margin of victory since a 52-3 win over New Orleans on Oct. 9, 2005. "It was important for us to go out and dominate the opponents late in the year," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "We have momentum going for us particularly what weve done over the last nine weeks, 10 weeks, so we wanted to take the next step as a football team and I felt we were able to accomplish that today." The Packers (11-4) moved up to the No. 2 seed with Seattles victory over San Francisco. Green Bay finishes the regular season next Sunday at Minnesota, and a victory would give the Packers a first-round bye. The Titans (5-10), meanwhile will be smarting all week from what might be the worst loss in a season full of them. The 55 points were the most allowed since Tennessee was shut out 59-0 by the New England Patriots on Oct. 18, 2009, and second time this season it had allowed 51 or more. The Titans needed until 1:39 left in the game to avoid the shutout. "Its embarrassing to lose 50-something to seven," Titans coach Mike Munchak said. "Thats just not acceptable and we let it happen. Thank God we have that (game next week) because I wouldnt want this to be our last game of the year." The Packers have been one of the NFLs best teams over the past two months, winning nine of 10 games. But they havent always been at their best against inferior teams, struggling to put away the likes of the Jaguars, Cardinals and Lions. That wasnt the case against Tennessee. Far from it. The Titans had one of the NFLs stingiest defences since giving up 51 points to Chicago on Nov. 4, allowing an average of 17.6 points to their past five opponents. But Rodgers and the Green Bay offence may as well have been playing Madden NFL video game for as easily as they piled up the yardage and the scores on the Titans. "Weve got the people in the locker room to do that type of stuff every game," said James Jones, who had his NFL-best 13th touchdown reception. "Each game presents its own challenges and its not (always) going to be like that. But we feel like every time we take the field we should score every time we get the ball." They didnt quite do that, though it probably seemed that way to the Titans. Green Bay scored on nine of its first 12 drives — one of those misses was the end of the first half — and was six of seven in the red zone. "Weve got to have a serious self-evaluation. We have one more game and weve got to fix it," Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner said. "This is embarrassing. It was an embarrassing loss. The Packers are a great team and for us to get to what we want, weve got to be able to compete with those teams." Rodgers finished 27 of 38, and matched his season high with 342 yards passing despite sitting for most of the fourth quarter. He connected with Randall Cobb (20 yards), Jennings (1) and Jones (12) for touchdowns, and also ran 6 yards for Green Bays first score. The Packers also cracked the 100-yard rushing mark for the sixth time in the past seven weeks, and their four touchdowns on the ground were one less than theyve managed the rest of the year combined. Cobb had another big day, breaking Ahman Greens single-season franchise record for net yardage the first time he touched the ball. He finished with 101 yards and has 2,342 for the year, 92 more than Green in 2003. "Hes a big-time player. Hes fun to watch," Rodgers said. Green Bays defence, meanwhile, made life miserable for Locker and the Titans. Tennessees offensive line has been decimated by injuries — it started its fifth combination Sunday — and the Titans also were without leading receiver Kendall Wright. But Locker didnt help matters. He was sacked seven times — he tripped over his own feet on one — and picked off twice, and finished 13 of 30 for 140 yards. Tennessee managed to cross midfield just three times during the game, and only avoided the shutout on Kenny Britts 2-yard catch with 1:39 left. "Weve got to be playing like this heading into playoffs," Rodgers said. "Its nice to get a win like this kind of going way and now weve got a tough one into Minnesota next week." Notes: Titans RB Chris Johnson was held to 28 yards on 11 carries. .. With 100 yards on seven catches, Jones has at least one 100-yard game in each of his six seasons. His 722 yards also tops his previous season best. ... A.J. Hawks two sacks tied his career best. ... Seven of the Titans 10 losses have been by 14 points or more. ... Fifteen different Packers have had a full sack this season, matching the franchise high. ... Blue-and-orange Oklahoma City Thunder flags flutter vehicles around the city and the state, a tribute to a team that four years ago was among the leagues worst. An Oklahoma City skyscraper has a "Lets Go Thunder" banner strung across it, and a local shop has a giant fake beard at its entrance to mimic Thunder guard James Hardens hirsute style. Before the Thunder arrived in 2008 -- an Oklahoma City businessman moved the team after Seattle balked at building the SuperSonics a new arena -- Oklahomans sports loyalties were split between OU and OSU. "This is the biggest thing weve had here. This is it," said Tony Wright, a Thunder fan pumping gasoline into an SUV adorned with "OKC" banners. Oklahoma City has home-court advantage in the best-of-7 series against the love-to-hate-em Miami Heat and superstars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. But life hasnt always been this sweet. The first Thunder team won only three of its first 32 games and finished 23-59, the third-worst record in the league. Finding tickets was easy. "They were giving them away," said Matthew Brown, a recent University of Oklahoma graduate who just moved to Little Rock, Ark. Now, the games draw so many to Chesapeake Energy Arena that, for a time, they were projected on screens outside. During the Thunders Western Conference semifinals with the Los Angeles Lakers, up to 7,000 unticketed fans showed up at the 17,000-seat arena, which is just west of Bricktown. But two weeks ago, a late-night shooting that injured 8 near the arena after a Thunder win put a stop to the big screens. City officials said the shooting was not game-related. "The crowds been huge for the pregame, then theyre going somewhere else to watch the game, either to a bar or to someones home," Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett said "This ever-escalating crowd, who knows how large it would get? And what would happen next?" Thunder coach Scott Brooks said players and coaches are energized by the fans. "They feel a part of this and they should. Theyve done a good job of making us feel that were a part of this community," he said. "Our players, they love playing here. They know every night that were going to have the best crowd in the game and theyre going to come out and theyre going to cheer you on." Guard Kevin Durant, one of two players who moved from Seattle and who led the Thunder to the conference finals last year, said hes been trying to focus on the task at hand. "You know theres family calling and friends calling, wanting to come down," Durant said. "But everybodys been doing a good job of giving me my space and just letting me focus on what we need to do." But many Oklahoma City residents still embrace the team as family.dddddddddddd Helen Jones said she has a photo of herself, Durant and guard Russell Westbrook as a screensaver on her cellphone. And Harden occasionally drops in for Wednesday night bible study at the Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church that she attends "They are so down to earth, clean, well-spoken and when I look at them, I try to get a picture of what theyre really, really like," said Jones, a season-ticket holder. At a Thunder youth basketball camp Friday, Cindy Melton watched her 8-year-old daughter, Caity, and dozens of other children run drills. "We tried to get her to bed early this week, with the camp going, so she could get some rest," said Melton, of Choctaw. "But with the games going on, we let her sleep on the couch, but she didnt go to sleep." When point guard Eric Maynor showed up for a visit, camp coaches blew their whistles and the children yelled in unison "Go Thunder!" Bud Carter, 93, has come to know the players well. He works for Huntleigh USA, which provides security screening for NBA players flying through Oklahoma Citys Will Rogers World Airport. "Those guys are really my boys. I screen them all the time," Carter said. "Theyre a great bunch of young men." Thunder pride is felt statewide, said Tulsa resident Sarah Neal, 34. "Theres really a great kind of community feel. Go to any sports bar showing the game. Youre sitting with strangers and youre high-fiving each other, buying each other drinks. Its a great time for our state," she said. At Bedlam Sports in Tulsa, co-owner Steve McCormick has had to make room for all the Thunder gear. "People feel like theyre on the team, and Ive got to get in there and get the stuff," he said. Oklahoma City resident Roberto Velez, 24, is one of those fans. Clad in a blue T-shirt that said "Were One," Velez waited for a flight at the Phoenix airport and explained why -- even though hes originally from Miami -- he easily changed allegiances. "Its been these young players prove they could beat the legends from championship teams like the Lakers, the Spurs and the Mavericks," Velez said. "Such a brand-new team deserves at least one ring." Cornett and other city officials began laying the foundation to attract a NBA franchise after Hurricane Katrina, playing host to the New Orleans Hornets for two years. It was enough for some Oklahoma sports fans to begin pushing the Sooners seven national football championships and Oklahoma States 34 national wrestling titles to the back of their minds. "It just started out with the Hornets, and then getting a team of our own has been a dream come true," said Eric Loftis, a season-ticket holder who lives in Norman. "We just forgot about football and everything else. Its just our team, the only team weve ever had." ' ' '
