ROCKLAND, Ont. -- Nicole Connery scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway with 1:15 left in the third period as Canadas under-18 womens national team edged the United States 3-2 on Friday night. Rebecca Kohler of St. Thomas, Ont., tied the game at 2-2 for Canada just over a minute into the third period. Erin Ambrose of Kewswick, Ont., opened scoring in the second. "I was just looking for that open space," said Connery, a native of Newmarket, Ont. "I was trying to draw (American goalie Megan Miller) a bit to the right so shed drop her right shoulder and I could shoot top right." Alex Carpenter and Anne Pankowski supplied the offence for the United States. Canada lost the first game of the three-game exhibition series 3-2 on Thursday. Connery said after Fridays win that there was a different feeling amongst the Canadians for the second game. "The energy was huge," said Connery. "The dressing room, we were getting it pumped in there." Canadian assistant coach Jim Fetter of Waterloo, Ont., agreed with Connerys assessment. "We just skated," said Fetter. "We moved our feet all game and over time we just wore them down. Same as yesterday, we continued to get better as the game went on and kept the pressure on." The third and final game of the exhibition series is Sunday. Fetter hopes the Canadians can channel their emotions into productive energy in the rubber match. "Were on an emotional high and I think its great that we can take the day off and regroup, get our emotions back," said Fetter. "Hopefully, we can finish it on Sunday." On the ice, Connery knows what she and her teammates need to do to win the final game of the exhibition. "We have to get those shots off early, crash the net really hard," said Connery. "Weve been trying to work on that every period, every shift. Were going to keep doing that and just keep playing our game." cheap wooden floor lamps freedom sale Frosted Glass Lantern Table Lamps by Foscarini - Rituals frosted-glass-lantern-table-lamps-by-foscarini -rituals-1.jpg Born from blown and frosted glass, this melding of East and West creates a magnificent sculpture of light. Figure out what feel you are going for – Southwest, sleek modern, relaxed cottage vibe – or whatever else you can dream up. I definitely believe in breaking the tradition that an outdoor space must look like a sterile Home Depot ad, especially as we are fortunate enough to live in a spot with such superb weather nearly year-round. Furnishings are key and should be tailored to your lifestyle. How do you use your outdoor space? To dine, to entertain, or just to tune out? You can use pieces designed to be outdoor furniture, or you can repurpose great thrift store finds. (Hint – try the Golden Goose in Catalina.) Select accessories that are not meant for the outdoors but will withstand the elements – such as beautiful platters or stylish trinkets. Wall art is something else not to rule out. A very cool carved piece or gorgeous metal work adds instant drama. Consider unexpected outdoor lighting – a table lamp, a unique chandelier or perhaps a floor torchiere thoughtfully placed to highlight the décor. You can find all-weather options online, or make your own by re-wiring a secondhand lamp with outdoor wiring. Inexpensive throw pillows that can be easily washed and donated if another design whim takes you next year, coupled with indoor/outdoor rugs found at a multitude of different stores will complete and polish off the look. Cliff Pennington hit a two-run homer and Coco Crisp knocked in a pair of runs for the Athletics, who snapped a three-game losing streak and ended a 20-inning scoreless streak. Oaklands Trevor Cahill (3-0) was solid in a six-inning start, giving up just one run on seven hits. I didnt feel that great out there, said Cahill. For them to take some pressure off, score that many runs, definitely helped out a lot. Hopefully, we can get into a groove and score a lot more tomorrow and keep it going. Jack Wilson drove in the lone run for the Mariners, who had shut out the As in the first two games of the series. Jason Vargas (0-2) was touched for six runs on six hits in five innings. We made some mistakes in every area of the game today, said Seattle manager Eric Wedge. Agaiinst a guy like Cahill, much less anybody at this level, you just cant do that.dddddddddddd We got to do a better job of controlling damage. A three-run fourth inning put the As ahead for good. Kurt Suzuki had a one-out walk and stole second after Mark Ellis popped out for the second out in the decisive inning. Kouzmanoff brought Suzuki home just before Pennington blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence to go up 4-1. The As put up a five-run sixth to really take command of the game.
