(SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets have thrived under Paul Maurice despite injury limiting Evander Kane to just four games under the new head coach.Kane is expected to return to the lineup on Thursday night when the Jets face the Phoenix Coyotes.Winnipeg has gone 9-3-1 in 13 games since replacing Claude Noel with Maurice, who made his coaching debut with the club in a 5-1 win over the Coyotes on Jan. 13. Ondrej Pavelec made 18 saves and the Jets got goals from five different players to beat the Coyotes for a second straight time following a six-game series losing streak. The Jets have also won both of their meetings at home versus the Coyotes since relocating from Atlanta.Coincidentally, the Coyotes franchise used to call Winnipeg home before moving to Phoenix prior to the 1996-97 season. The current Jets have endured just one losing streak under Noel, a current two-game slide that includes a shootout setback to St. Louis in the final game before the Olympic break.Kane missed the last six games with a hand infection and has been limited to just four games since Jan. 7 due to injury. He has 15 goals and 29 points in 42 games this season. The fourth overall pick of the 2009 draft is likely to skate on a line tonight with Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele.I want him to play his game in our framework, Maurice said of what he wants to see out of Kane. Thats what Im asking from everybody. Keep the individual things that make you special, just fly in formation, especially when we dont have the puck. The Jets come in with 62 points, two fewer than the Coyotes, who trail the Vancouver Canucks by just one point for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. Phoenix also is six points behind Los Angeles for third place in the Pacific Division.Consistency has been an issue for the Coyotes, who lost their final game before the Olympic break and are 4-5-1 since last winning back-to-back games on Jan. 16 and 18.Phoenix returns five players to its roster who competed in the Sochi Olympics, including goaltender Mike Smith, who won a gold medal with Team Canada even though he did not get into a game during the tournament.I knew going over there that thered be a good possibility that I wouldnt get into a game, Smith told Phoenixs website. I was just doing everything I could to be a part of the team and kind of keep the dressing room light and get to know a lot of the guys I play against (in the NHL).Like the Coyotes, Smith has had an up-and-down season, going 20-17-9 with a 2.77 goals against average and .913 save percentage.Smith yielded all five goals on 38 shots in the earlier loss to the Jets, falling to 7-6-0 with a 2.53 GAA against the franchise.Pavelec is 2-1-1 in his career versus the Coyotes, posting a 1.73 GAA. http://www.cheapnfljerseysonline.net/nike-nfl-jerseys/ . - The Washington Wizards are in a great position to make the playoffs for the first time in six years, and John Wall has a lot to do with it. http://www.cheapnfljerseysonline.net/nike-nfl-jerseys/ . "The biggest thing is to win the whole thing as a team," said Scrubb.SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Chicago Blackhawks won their first shootout of the season and showed signs that their scoring woes could be a thing of the past. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp each scored in the shootout to lift the Blackhawks to a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Toews also scored in regulation, Bryan Bickell added a goal and Corey Crawford made 20 saves. The Blackhawks havent scored in the third period since the season opener and lost two shootouts earlier this season. "Were not happy with giving up leads in the third period," Sharp said. "Wed like to close teams out by scoring in the third period and get out of here, but when the games get tight we seem to play better and thats important. It would be a lot worse if we were coming away with no points instead of two." Sharp beat goalie Jacob Markstrom on the glove side for the deciding shootout goal. The Blackhawks have won five of their past six games and extended their point streak to six games. Florida has lost four of its last five games and has lost to Chicago four straight times. Dmitry Kulikov and Tomas Fleischmann scored for the Panthers and Tim Thomas stopped 25 shots before leaving with 2:59 left in the game due to an apparent lower body injury. Markstrom entered the game and made two saves. Thomas was in his third start after missing four games due to a groin injury. After making a stop, Thomas bent to the ice in discomfort. When play stopped, he went to the bench. "I didnt want him to not be able to play out there, either maybe hurt himself a little bit more, or not be able to play to his full potential," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "I dont have an update on where he is. We probably will tomorrow." Trailing 2-0, the Panthers scored two goalss in less than three minutes in the third.dddddddddddd They closed to 2-1 on Fleischmanns goal at 9:04. Aleksander Barkov passed across to Fleischmann in the lower right circle. His slap shot beat Crawford on the glove side. Kulikov took a shot from the high slot that got past Crawford at 11:51 that tied it at 2 and put the Panthers back in it and enabled them to salvage a point. "We stayed resilient," Floridas Kris Versteeg said. "It was a nice point, but again weve got to find a way to get those extra points." Chicago coach Joel Quenneville is satisfied with the Blackhawks effort. "I dont think were playing any different than the first two periods. I dont think were sitting on leads," Quenneville said. "Were not complaining, lets put it that way." The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead on Toews power-play goal at 5:18 of the second. Duncan Keith made a nice pass from the top of the left circle to Toews skating in on the right side. His backhanded shot beat Thomas. Chicago stretched its lead to 2-0 at 16:49 of the second. Bickell brought the puck to the left circle and wristed it past Thomas high into the net. Bickells goal was his second in two games. The Panthers were awarded a penalty shot at 9:24 of the second after Jonathan Huberdeau was tripped by Michal Handzus stick.
