Rachel Homans champion curling rink will have a different look next season. Longtime second Alison Kreviazuk is leaving the Homan team next month after deciding to move to Sweden to be with her boyfriend. Joanne Courtney of Val Sweetings rink will join Homan, lead Lisa Weagle and third Emma Miskew next season. Kreviazuk will close out her 13-year run with Homan at the April 15-20 season-ending Grand Slam Players Championships in Summerside, P.E.I. "Its been something that Ive been considering for a while," Kreviazuk said Tuesday in an interview from Ottawa. "But I gave my team the heads up a couple months ago and just gave them the idea that this was something I was thinking of, so they may want to consider their options. "Theyve made an extremely great choice with Joanne. I think shes going to be a perfect fit for the team." The announcement was made two days after the Homan rink won silver at the world championship in Saint John, N.B. The Canadian side dropped a 9-5 decision to Switzerlands Binia Feltscher in the gold-medal game at Harbour Station. "It definitely didnt affect our performance," Homan said. "If anything, we wanted it that much more." The Ottawa-based team won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts for the first time last year and went on to win bronze at the 2013 world championship in Riga, Latvia. Kreviazuk has spent the last decade curling with Homan and Miskew while Weagle joined the team four years ago. "Ali is an amazing curler and such a wonderful person, shes difficult to replace," Weagle said. "But I think in Joanne weve found someone who is a phenomenal curler and in my opinion, the best womens sweeper in the world. I think that she will be a good fit for our team. "It will be different but were excited about what the next four years have in store for Team Homan." Kreviazuks peers voted her the winner of the Frances Brodie Award for sportsmanship at last weeks world championship. The 25-year-old also won silver at the 2010 world junior championship as the teams alternate. "I think our progress is what was so tremendous," Kreviazuk said. "Every year we kept improving. Each year there (were) new opportunities. It was such a pleasure to play with (them). "Every year there was something to celebrate." Kreviazuk, who worked at a car dealership for two years before becoming a full-time curler this season, has yet to make a decision about her curling future. Her boyfriend, Fredrik Lindberg, plays second for Swedish skip Niklas Edin. Sweden won Olympic bronze at the Sochi Games last month and took the world title last year in Victoria. "Obviously were sad that shes leaving but Im really happy that shes made a decision that makes her happy," Homan said. Courtneys rink finished second to Homan at the national championships last month in Montreal. The 25-year-old from Edmonton plans to live in Ottawa during the curling season. "We feel Joanne is a great fit with our team and someone who shares our team goals and passion for the game," Homan said. "It will be a big change but we are excited that she has decided to join us for the next Olympic cycle." Sweetings team reacted to the news on Twitter. "Surprised and unfortunate to see her go but we wish Joanne the best of luck with (at)TeamHoman .curling," the team said in a tweet. Courtney has also represented Alberta at two Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships. "I was honoured to be asked to join Team Homan," she said in a statement. "I have played against them on numerous occasions so I know what kind of talent they bring to the table. I know I have big shoes to fill in replacing Alison and I cant wait to get on the ice with them to start preparing for next season. "I had a wonderful run with Val, Dana Ferguson and Rachelle Pidherny and I cant thank them enough for our seasons together." Courtney spent the last three seasons with the Sweeting rink, which is ranked 10th on the World Curling Tours order of merit. The skip was surprised when Courtney broke the news to her over the phone Monday night. "I didnt see it coming, especially based on conversations that had taken place within the team after the Scotties," Sweeting said from Vegreville, Alta. "I dont know when the offer came to her but it is what it is. When opportunities like that come around in curling, you have to take them. We understand, it happens. "Its unfortunate for us in this particular moment but all we can do is look forward and keep building." Sweeting added her team will take some time before deciding on a replacement. Canadas strong showing throughout the World Cup season has qualified it for the maximum number of spots in every short-track speedskating event at the Sochi Games in February. "With the beginning to the season that Ive had, beginning with the Canadian trials in August, I have nothing to doubt in myself. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Mets said goodbye to popular outfielder Carlos Beltran in the clubhouse, then pulled themselves together and won without him. Time to move on. Beltran told his teammates that hed accepted a trade to San Francisco shortly before Wednesday nights game, leaving a big hole in the New York lineup. Lucas Duda took his spot in the outfield and homered in an 8-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Days of speculation about the All-Stars future ended with congratulatory handshakes on the field after a third straight win. "Were exhausted by it," manager Terry Collins said. "Were exhausted talking about it." Early on Wednesday, Beltran got 24 hours to decide whether to approve the trade to the Giants, who need another slugger in their quest for a second straight World Series title. The Mets got their answer shortly before the game. "He came over and shook everybodys hands and said thank you," outfielder Angel Pagan said. Beltran was on his way to join the Giants in Philadelphia, where they finish their series on Thursday night. The deal was expected to be announced in the morning. The Reds struggled after popular outfielder Jonny Gomes was traded to Washington right before the start of their game on Tuesday night. Cincinnati committed three errors in an 8-6 loss. No such letdown by the Mets. "Obviously, were a better team with Carlos Beltran," said Mike Pelfrey (6-9), who pitched a seven-hitter for his second complete game of the season. "Its unfortunate. But were going to go out there continuing to compete and continuing to win. "Somebody in here said, Hey, lets make the playoffs, too. Thats motivation." Duda will get a lot more time in right field with Beltran gone. The rookie homered off Bronson Arroyo (7-9), who couldnt extend his long run of success against the Mets. David Wright also homered and drove in four runs. Daniel Murphy had a career-high four hits. The Mets have won the first three games in the series against a Reds team thats turned uncharacteristically sloppy. They had another error -- their ffourth in the last two games -- and a passed ball that helped New York pull ahead.dddddddddddd The defending NL Central champions fell a season-high four games under .500 at 50-54, stranded in fourth place. "It seems like its getting harder and harder to be optimistic," Arroyo said. The Mets moved two games over .500 as they parted with their best hitter. Duda -- the clubs minor league player of the year in 2010 -- let it sink in that he could be playing a lot more in an unaccustomed position. Hes more familiar with left field and first base. "Ill try my best out there and see what happens," he said. Collins didnt hesitate to plug him into Beltrans spot in right. "Hed better get comfortable real fast," Collins said. Didnt take long. Duda opened the sixth inning with his second homer of the season off Arroyo, who has given up 30 overall, the most in the majors. Its a bad sign for the Reds when Arroyo cant beat the Mets. The right-hander was 7-1 in his previous 10 starts against New York, and was 5-0 in his last six outings against the Mets, allowing a total of 13 runs. This time, he lasted six innings and gave up five runs. New York blew it open with Wrights three-run homer in the seventh off Jose Arredondo, making it 8-1. Wright has been on a hitting tear since he returned from a stress fracture in his lower back, going 12-for-28 with two homers and 11 RBIs in six games. He also had a sacrifice fly off Arroyo. Pelfrey gave up a solo homer to Torontos Joey Votto in the fourth and Chris Heiseys sacrifice fly in the seventh. Notes: The teams conclude their series Thursday afternoon. They play again at Citi Field from Sept. 26-28. ... The Mets havent swept a series in Cincinnati since 2003, when they took three games during Great American Ball Parks inaugural season. ... Beltran should be back in Cincinnati soon. San Francisco opens a weekend series at Great American Ball Park on Friday. ... Arroyos 30 homers allowed are one shy of his career high.
