KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kevin Harvick has a second straight shot at winning from the pole at Kansas Speedway. Harvick was back on top at the 1.5-mile track, posting a track record to help propel him to his second pole of the season. Harvick posted his record 194.658 mph lap Friday in the second round of NASCARs knockout qualifying format. His No. 4 Chevrolet hit 194.252 in the third round to give him two straight poles at Kansas, after he won from the top spot at Octobers race. "It was Freaky Fast today, so just have to put it all together tomorrow night when it counts," Harvick said. Harvick has two wins this season and won from the pole at Darlington. He will lead the field to green Saturday under the lights for the first time in a Sprint Cup race at Kansas. Joey Logano joined Harvick on the front row. Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five. His qualifying spins over, Keselowski worked hard defending himself from drivers -- like former champion Jimmie Johnson -- who said he didnt need to race so hard when he was out of contention Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. Keselowski fell six laps off the pace while his car was repaired from an earlier accident. When he returned to the track, he decided to race hard with the leaders in an attempt to slowly get his laps back and maybe put himself back in position to win. Keselowski eventually spun in the middle of the pack to trigger a 14-car accident that wrecked former champions Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart and Johnson. "You have to think being six laps down you are not going to get back on the lead lap," Johnson said Friday. "There is an opinion, if you are on the race track you deserve a right to go race regardless how many laps down you are. Im sure that is probably a smaller percentage of people have that opinion. Its very easy when you are caught up in that wreck is to go, Why were you racing? You are six laps down. It just depends on where you are." Keselowski brushed off the barbs from his rivals. "Thats his right," Keselowski said. "We all hold the steering wheel. Theres 43 of us out there and we all hold it a little bit differently and make different decisions. It would be quite lame to watch if we all did the same thing and had the same ideas and personnas. "Id say in most cases, I probably wouldnt have done it. But in that case, I felt like it was the proper thing to do with having the potential to race the 1 car (Jamie McMurray) and get back in sequence. If we got back in sequence, we had enough speed in our car, with yellows, to have a shot at winning the race. I wasnt ready to give up." Kurt Busch was sixth, followed by Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart. Danica Patrick qualified ninth for her second straight top-10 start and Greg Biffle was 10th. Harvick said a little 15-minute pep talk with Patrick may have spurred her to another solid qualifying run. She set a track record on her first lap, though it was topped multiple times during the three rounds. "She just basically needed to quit thinking about it and smash the gas," he said. "Thats what she said. Shes done a great job in trying to take in all the information." Harvick, who jumped from Richard Childress Racing to Stewart-Haas Racing, pulled away from Kurt Busch and Gordon on a late restart to win a wreck-filled race in October at Kansas. "I dont think its going to be like the way it was when they dropped the green flag last fall here," he said. Harvick won his eighth pole in 477 career starts. "It makes life a lot easier when you can have pit stall one," he said. "Hopefully we can have a good night tomorrow night, but the weekend has gone good we had a great test here a few weeks ago and everything has carried right over." cheap nfl jerseys . -- The new starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs is a former first-round draft pick on a one-year deal whose career thus far has been a disappointment. wholesale jerseys . Maxime Presseaults goal at 13:59 of the second period broke a 2-2 deadlock for the Foreurs, who trailed the series 3-2 before winning back-to-back games, and Guillaume Gelinas and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier also scored.SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins broke out of their slump in a big way. Evgeni Malkin scored late in the second period and the Penguins beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 Friday night. Steve Sullivan, Tyler Kennedy, and James Neal also scored as the Penguins snapped a six-game losing streak, their longest since 2006, and got their first multigoal effort in the past six games. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 shots. "Its a huge relief. It wasnt fun for anybody," Fleury said. "It got frustrating, but everybody stuck together. Our last game in Washington (1-0 loss) was a good game for a lot of guys, but we couldnt win that one. Tonight, again we played well, offensively, defensively, and it paid off." Michal Repik scored Floridas goal and Scott Clemmensen made 37 saves. After a scoreless opening period in which Pittsburgh had an 18-6 advantage on shots, the Penguins took a 1-0 lead on Sullivans goal at 1:49 of the second. Clemmensen attempted to bring the puck out from behind the net, but it slipped away from him and out to Matt Cooke below the right circle. He passed to Sullivan in the low slot, and Sullivan easily got the puck past Clemmensen trying to get back in position. "Maybe we needed to get a little bit of a miscue and a fortunate goal to get us started, to get us on the right track after the first period," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. The Penguins hit the post three times in the first period. "They kept coming at us hard all night long, right from the start," Clemmensen said. "They were a desperate team, they played desperate, they worked hard, they outworked us for the most part all night lonng.dddddddddddd. Give them credit. They outworked us and they deserved to win tonight." Malkin made it 2-0 with an unassisted score with 35 seconds to go in the period. Malkin brought the puck along the boards and shot from low in the left circle. His shot was blocked by Clemmensen and bounced off the end boards. Malkin grabbed the rebound and fired a backhanded shot that glanced off Clemmensen and into the net for his 18th goal of the season. Kennedy stretched the lead 36 seconds into the third as the Penguins came down the ice with a 3-on-2 advantage and his wrist shot whistled past Clemmensen on the glove side. Repik got the Panthers on the board at 6:55 of the final period, tipping in Jason Garrisons shot from just inside the blue line. Garrison now has a career-high 19 points this season. "We didnt have the intensity level that they did," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "They came in here with the attitude that they were going to do whatever it took to win and it looked like we were looking for an easier way to win the game." Neal closed the scoring with 4:17 to go, sending a shot from the left circle past Clemmensen for his team-leading 22nd goal of the season. "Its obviously a good feeling to get out of a slump like that," Neal said. "Its been a long time since a win." NOTES: Pittsburghs Sidney Crosby skated Friday for the first time since Dec. 7th. Crosby is uncertain when he will return and says he still has concussion symptoms. ... Pittsburgh is 15-6-3 when scoring first. ... Panthers G Jose Theodore missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury, but skated Thursday and might return next week. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
