MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves dont seem to be getting any healthier as the grind of a shortened NBA season ramps up and its limiting coach Rick Adelmans options to tinker with his starting lineup. Forward Michael Beasley and guard J.J. Barea wont travel with the team to New Orleans and Atlanta this weekend because of injuries that could cause them to miss several more games. Beasley has not played since Jan. 6 because of a sprained right foot. Barea missed four games this season with a strained left hamstring and now is out with a sprained left ankle suffered against Chicago on Tuesday night. After taking Wednesday off following three games in three nights, the Wolves had only nine healthy players in practice Thursday. Kevin Love missed the session for personal reasons but is expected to be with the team against the Hornets on Friday. "We just have to adjust as we go," Adelman said. "Thats just the way it is at this point." Adjustment has been the theme so far this season. The lockout prevented the new coaching staff from working with and evaluating the roster most of the off-season, and there has been precious little practice time since the beginning of the break-neck regular season. Centre Brad Miller (knee), swingman Martell Webster (back) and rookie guard Malcolm Lee (knee) all had surgeries before the season and have not been available. Miller did some light work in practice Thursday, but all three are at least a few weeks away from being able to play. Beasley, the Wolves best option to create his own shot late in games, injured his foot against the Cavs and has missed the past three games already. Barea, the teams prize free agent signing, has been hobbled since the second game of the season. Love and rookie Ricky Rubio have played well, but Adelman is still searching for the right combinations in the starting lineup and off the bench to give his team the best chance to win. The starters -- Love, Darko Milicic, Wes Johnson, Wayne Ellington and Luke Ridnour -- have come out of the gates slowly in each of the last three games, digging a 24-point hole against the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday. After the game, Adelman said he was considering a change to the starting lineup to get more energy at the beginning of games, but injuries are handcuffing him. "Well just have to see," Adelman said. "Im considering everything right now." Starting faster is no doubt the priority for the Wolves (3-7). "We are starting like, waiting for it," Rubio said. "We have to punch first. I mean, in this league, if they punch first, like Chicago did, you are in trouble. "You are 24 down and then you start playing, like we did. But in the end, you are in trouble if you are not controlling the game. And if you are 24 down, its so hard to control the game." CLEVELAND -- This week, everyone gets to watch Johnny play football. The Browns have relaxed their media limitations to see rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel practice. Manziel, who will compete with Brian Hoyer for Clevelands starting job, will take part in the clubs three-day organized team activities, which began Tuesday. The Browns are allowing national media to cover the workout after limiting access for their rookie minicamp last week to only local reporters and photographers. First-year Browns coach Mike Pettine only permitted access for 15 minutes of practice on Saturday. Manziel threw three passes and did some stretching during the period the workout was open. Sundays workout was closed. On Wednesday, Clevelands entire practice session will be open to both local and national media members. Pettine, who was on New Yorks coaching staff when the Jets acquired celebrated quarterback Tim Tebow, is trying to contain the hype surrounding Manziel, the flashy Texas A&M quarterback Cleveland selected in the first round of the NFL draft. The Browns received push back from some national outlets upset about being denied credentials. "Were well aware of what the league rules are and well open it up to the national media this week," Pettinne said at a banquet in Akron on Monday night.dddddddddddd "I think its once a week is the policy. Were not going to go overboard with it. There will be a limited amount of time you can film and certain players will be available certain days. Thats how well go moving forward." Pettine believes too much was made of last weeks media restrictions. His objective was to keep the media to a minimum so as not to cause a distraction for his young players. "It was overblown a little bit," he said. "It was more rewarding the local media than it was punishing. The words ban and punishing, to me that was nonsense." The Browns havent always received positive media feedback, mostly because the team has been a perennial loser and there has been nearly constant turnover with the front office and coaches. Pettine knows one way to change the Browns -- and Clevelands -- national perception. "The only way well get credibility with the national media is if we win," he said. "I was more concerned about the how the hype would affect the team, and thats my primary concern is the team. Its all about football. Whether we have some national people that are upset with us, so be it. Were going to undersell and overproduce." cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
