But I also think it’s fair to want to see a larger sample size before we say he’s just so clearly better than Wentz. I think these results should have Mahomes and Wentz much closer together. Wentz has proven he’s not a one-year wonder. He’s looked very good through four games this season. The same can’t be said for Deshaun Watson, who certainly would’ve received a lot more votes if this poll was conducted a year ago. What if Mahomes comes back in 2019 and takes a step back like Watson has this year?As for Jared Goff, I think he’s a good quarterback. I don’t think he’s elite, though. What’s your confidence level in Goff if, say, he had “the average NFL play-caller” instead of Sean McVay? I’m not trying to say he’s totally a system quarterback but I can’t say I’m 100% confident there wouldn’t be a big drop off if he didn’t have McVay. I think Wentz would fare better with that “average NFL play-caller” considering his ability to make plays outside of structure. Perhaps my favorite part about this poll is the exclusion of a certain Dallas Cowboys quarterback. Fools used to think Dak Prescott was better than Wentz.
