MOSCOW， May 24 (Xinhua) -- Russia would take more responsive measures against NATO's eastward expansion， in addition to deploying three new divisions near its western border， Russia's ambassador to NATO said Tuesday.
"Our interests will be securely protected. The deployment of three divisions is just one of the measures to be taken in this context，" Alexander Grushko said， without specifying other countermeasures Russia could take.
"Today， our armed forces， and the military-technical potential we have， allow us to choose between different military and technical methods to protect security in order not to get dragged in the spiral of an arms race，" Grushko said as quoted by Tass news agency.
Grushko recalled the recent deployment of U.S. Aegis Ashore missile defense systems in Romania， the start of a similar launch area project in Poland， and the signing by NATO and Montenegro of an accession protocol.
Stressing that Russia is not interested in confrontation， Grushko said NATO's latest steps bring evident risks to regional and global security.
"(The policy of NATO's expansion) does not meet real security needs but only creates division lines，" Grushko said.
He added that NATO's policy of confrontation with Russia was doomed to failure， and the alliance would have to revise its approach fundamentally sooner or later.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said in May that deployment of three new mechanized infantry divisions near Russia's western border would be finished by the end of this year.
The divisions， 10，000-strong each， are expected to be deployed in the Rostov， Smolensk and Voronezh regions， all on the country's European side.
Russia-NATO relations have been at a low point since armed conflicts broke out in eastern Ukraine in early 2014. Russia has repeatedly expressed concerns over the military buildup by NATO in neighboring countries.

According to Guo, the book, together with its newly published second volume, features the rich contents of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and offers an important window for the international community to fully, objectively and rationally understand contemporary China.
At the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Laos Wang Wentian said the publication of Lao language version of the book will strengthen mutual trust and respect between the two parties and the two countries, enhance understanding of Lao people about China, promote people-to- people connectivity, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, constantly consolidate the traditional friendship, and further build a solid foundation for the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Laos.
For his part, Kikeo Khaikhamphithoune, member of Secretariat of the Central Committee of Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Head of the Party's Commission for Propaganda and Training, said the publication of the book is a valuable gift for the Lao party and people on the occasion of the upcoming visit of Xi Jinping to Laos.
The Lao language versions of Xi Jinping's report at the 19th CPC National Congress and his book on governance are of practical significance for the Lao side to study and learn from China's theory and experience, said Kikeo.
The book "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" collects 79 speeches, talks, interviews, notes and letters of the Chinese leader between November 2012 and June 2014. Since its first launch in September 2014, the book has been translated into 24 languages, 27 versions and over 6.6 million books have been published worldwide.
GUANGZHOU, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- A "VR zoo" has officially opened in south China's Guangzhou City, providing a new interaction experience for visitors while increasing people's awareness of wildlife protection.
In its first phase, the VR zoo at the Guangzhou Zoo was equipped with more than 20 robot-like devices for visitors to observe the feeding, playing and breeding of wild animals, some through the help of mobile phones.
So far, the experience covers dinosaur exhibitions, monkeys and VR films, according to Liang Fengyun, head of the Guangzhou Zoo.
"We use almost all immersion technologies, such as VR, AR, MR, 3D projection and holography," said Xiang Xi, CEO of Guangzhou Time Network Technology Co. Ltd., a tech company working on the program.
"Tourists can interact with animals without disturbing them," Liang said.
On the first day of its opening, about 20,000 visitors participated in the VR experience in the zoo. To ensure order, visitors need to book tickets in advance.
The first phase cost about 20 million yuan (about 3.1 million U.S. dollars) and more investment will be made in the second phase of construction. The zoo will build a full VR zoo in early 2019.
The VR zoo will also be available online in 2019, according to Liang.
