He was better here than he was in the American (Hockey) League (with Grand Rapids)." It wasnt all young kids, however. Wily perennial All-Star Pavel Datsyuk had a goal to send the game into overtime with 6 minutes remaining in regulation, and also had an assist. The second contest of a compacted season was vital to the Red Wings. "This was an important game tonight," said goalie Jimmy Howard, who had 30 saves. "You dont want to go down 0-2, especially in the shortened season. Two points are key. We got em. Now we want to enjoy this on the flight home." Cam Atkinson, James Wisniewski and Vinny Prospal scored goals during regulation for Columbus, which was coming off a 3-2 shootout win at Nashville on Saturday night. Down 2-0 at one point, the Blue Jackets pulled even at 2-2 on a power play. Wisniewskis one-timer from just inside the blue line -- a low, rising shot -- beat Howard on the glove side. They then took the lead on another man-advantage after Kyle Quincey was called for interference on R.J. Umberger -- the Blue Jackets third consecutive power play in the third period. Cycling the puck, the Blue Jackets Nikita Nikitin blasted a big one-timer that sailed over the cage and off the glass. It filtered all the way through congestion in front of the net. Prospal collected it at the right hash mark and scored. The Red Wings werent done, however. As a power play was ending, Henrik Zetterberg dug the puck out of the corner and fed Niklas Kronwall, who faked and then fed Datsyuk who had crept in behind Sergei Bobrovsky and the rest of the Columbus defence to score easily with just over 6 minutes remaining. Bobrovsky made 39 saves. In the shootout, Atkinson opened with a goal for the Blue Jackets, but it was disallowed after a video review determined that he had shot the puck twice while jamming it into the net past Howard. Neither team scored through three rounds. After Howard stopped Matt Calvert, Brunner made a sterling move to force the puck under the right leg pad of Bobrovski. It also was reviewed, but was confirmed. "I went forehand, backhand and then dragged it back and went forehand," Brunner said. "I did it a couple times in Switzerland. Normally, I get it (higher), but there was a little hole there." Goals by Lashoff and White made it 2-0 midway through the second period. Just over a minute later, the Blue Jackets narrowed the gap back to a goal when Atkinson took a pass from Ryan Johansen and then slipped past defenceman Brendan Smith to beat Howard. Columbus coach Todd Richards was pleased that his team had come back to force overtime after trailing. "Its great resiliency," he said. "The negative is were putting ourselves down. But we battled back. Our goalie was great again. If hes not good in the first period, we would have been in a real big hole." Kyle Lowry finished with 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in the Raptors 134-129 triple-overtime loss to the Washington Wizards on Thursday. The Toronto point guard played 54 minutes despite an ankle sprain in his 41st minute of play and eventually fouling out. "We just ran out of time," said guard DeMar DeRozan. "All we needed is one stop, one rebound, one bucket. We just couldnt get it. They scored when they needed to, we scored when we needed to but we didnt get a stop when we needed it." DeRozan scored 34 points for Toronto (32-26), and Greivis Vasquez had a season-high 26 points and eight assists off the bench. Still, it was the sting of having to play with a banged up Lowry in the extra sessions that hurt even more than Amir Johnson and Patrick Patterson fouling out for the Raptors. At three hours 32 minutes, Thursdays game became the longest in the Raptors history. Wall scored 31 points and nine assists and Marcin Gortat scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Wizards outlasted Toronto. The Raptors were shorthanded throughout the second half of regulation in addition to the extra sessions. With 2:15 remaining in the second quarter, Terrence Ross stepped on the foot of a Wizards player and rolled his left ankle while being fouled on a layup attempt. He stayed in the game to make the free throws, but left with a little less than a minute remaining in the half and did not return. Ahead by two with 30 seconds remaining in overtime, Vasquez lost the ball to Wall who tied the game at 114 with 23 seconds remaining. Wall would block Lowrys layup attempt as time expired to force a second overtime. Back-to-back makes from Vasquez closed out Torontos scoring in regulation. Gortat tied the game at 106 with 5.2 seconds remaining and a layup by Lowry missed at the buzzer, forcing overtime. DeRozan and Lowry combined to score 22 of Torontos 24 points in the third quarter. The Raptors trailed Washington 83-78 going into the fourth. Toronto closed the half with a Lowry technical followed up by a DeRozan turnover. Washington took a 57-54 advantage into the break.
